United qualified for the last eight of the tournament in dramatic fashion after a late Marcus Rashford penalty put the Red Devils through on away goals.
Fred struggled to find his feet under Solskjaer's predecessor Jose Mourinho and admitted as much in an interview with ManUtd.com.
He said: "Things have been difficult for me, I have been out of the team and that has been frustrating.
"But, I have never let that get me down and have never let my head go down."
